Alpha Chi Sigma (AXΣ) is a professional chemistry fraternity - an organization whose goal is to promote the interests of the chemical profession in all its forms. Membership is open to collegiate and professional men and women who possess a strong interest in chemistry, and is for life. Being a professional fraternity, AXΣ aims to bridge the divide between the collegiate and professional, allowing members to experience firsthand the kind of work they will encounter in their careers as chemists. This is accomplished through Professional and Service Activities, such as our joint project with the Boy Scouts of America. All chemistry related majors are welcome to join. This includes Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, CHBE, BME, EAS, MSE, and all majors on the Pre-Med track.
Here are our Constitution and Bylaws and our National Website.
To bind its members with a tie of true and lasting friendship.
To strive for the advancement of chemistry both as a science and as a profession.
To aid its members by every honorable means in the attainment of their ambitions as chemists throughout their mortal lives.
Joining a professional fraternity such as AXΣ can be very rewarding, both academically and professionally. Many brothers find that one of the most valuable aspects of joining this organization is the opportunity to meet and interact with others who share a passion for chemistry. Through collective fraternal, academic, and professional interests, a bond is formed between its members; a bond which unites each and every brother on a most fundamental level.
Any students in their second semester of their first year or older in a chemistry related major are eligible to join. Join us for our five virtual Spring 2021 Rush events on the week of January 25th. You must attend at least 2 events to be considered for membership. If you feel that you may not be able to attend at least two events, or if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and contact our rush chairs.
Every semester, Alpha Chi Sigma hosts a group from local Boy Scouts of America troops and helps them earn their Chemistry merit badge. Small groups of brothers give presentations to the scouts about basic concepts in chemistry, careers in chemistry, and chemistry's impact on the environment. The entire event concludes with a demonstration of several exciting, eye-catching demonstrations of powerful chemical reactions. This event gives us the chance to bring young minds into the wonderful world of chemistry and make a meaningful impact in their education.
Our chapter performs demonstrations both here at Georgia Tech and at various elementary schools around the Atlanta area. Our most popular demos are typically making tie-dye t-shirts and liquid nitrogen ice cream; these are fun not only for spectators but also for the brothers performing them!
